Book

I wanted to share a fail. I found on Pinterest that cutting a book could make a great box. So I found an old book and took it on our camping trip

I started with cutting out the middle of the book. This was messy and the paper bunched up in the corner and between the pages.

I then sanded the pages for smooth sides for the inside of the box. This made the side a little dirty.

I started with mod podge. It set the pages and add a gloss finish.

I thought the glue would add more smoothness, but it only emphasized the areas I did not sand enough and trapped in some black dirt.

I did manage to mod podge one of my photos to the front. It turn out to be a nice addition. The book still had the title on the side so glued a little fabric to cover it up!

I tried to increase the look by adding resin to the inside, creating a smoother texture and coating.

Then I finished the corners with some corner pieces.

Unfortunately, the back suffered some stains from all the glue and I put the corner pieces on backwards. The felt on the spine looks cheesey. However, it was fun to make, and I may just have to keep it in my book collection.

Rock frames

Flagstone is pretty cool and has a flat surface. After breaking up some flagstone in my backyard (Brian’s doing), I had some smaller pieces to make magnenets and larger prices to put on stands. I cut the print to fit and then covered with resin.

I used copper wire for the stand and hand bent the frame to look interesting and be functional.

Agave photo

I wanted to try and recreate my first frame but this time backwards. I went to Janna’s so we could create the backwards frame. Instead on putting wood planks on the front we attached the shorter pieces on the back. We also used smaller pieces of wood so it is not as big as the first one.

We used spacers between the wood to give the frame a lighter feel. We nailed and glued the wood planks to the back to give it support. The wooden planks in the back allow for a flat surface for the photo.

I stained the wood and used decorative brass tacks. Using plexiglass over the photo instead of glass allows a smaller glare and makes the photo the star of the show. I chose my agave photo with purple lantana from the Arizona Botanical Gardens. I think the dark stain and the brightness of the picture go well together.

Rock stands

When Brian and I go hiking, I love collecting things. Some of the rocks on the moggiallon rim are fascinating. They are orange or white with a smooth texture.

I thought a piece of our hiking trips should go into my Creations. So I though of using some of the bigger rocks as stands and putting copper wire around them to hold he picture.

I covers the front of the photo with resin to give it a glossy finish but not make it too heavy.

The finished product is unique with a bit of Arizona implemented into them.

Hello

Hi! My name is Jordan and I am the excited owner of Jordan’s Art Creations on Etsy. I am excited to share my pieces and discuss some of my challenges or processes :) I am always working on new things and working to improve.

Brian and I share a love for photography and started J & B Photography LLC. We loved getting out doors and taking pictures. I wanted to take the pictures a step further than prints and started designing my own frames. I love doing craft shows and talking to people about my work.

I have also enjoyed trying other crafts like crochet, sewing, baking, wreath making, and stained glass. I love trying new things and being creative. That is why I wanted to open Jordan Art Creations and offer a varity of arts. I continue to try new things outside of photography.

I hope you enjoy my new blog and sharing my experiences with my Art Creations!

3D frame

Came up with the concept of popping out some areas in my print. Went over to Janna’s and we made a simple frame for the piece. I printed two pictures and cut out the cactus in one of them. Using foam double sided tape, I was able to make the picture stand out! I am thinking next I will try it with more levels!

This item has sold but please keep checking my store for new Creations!

Cholla frame

Brian and I went on a hike to area we named cholla forest but is really the Second water trail.

We were able to find some good dead pieces of cholla to take for my project.

I again went to Janna’s to construct a new frame with the cholla wood. We started by cutting it in half so the round pieces can fit around a frame.

I
attempted to stain and polyurethane pieces to take away the dull grey. Polyurethane world best!

We had to construct our own custom frame for the cholla to fit around. I painted it black so it was less noticeable.

I sanded, stained and ties the cholla to the frame. I had a little trouble meeting the corners, but a rustic
look was what I was going for.

This beautiful cactus flower seemed a good fit for the rustic frame. I paired it with a pink frame to enhance the color of the flower.

My first frame

I used my family to help me create my first frame! I went to Janna’s to use her saw and left over wood. I explained the idea and she helped me plan out the concept. We cut our larger pieces to match in length and two shorter pieces to hold them together. With a little wood glue and a nail gun, the price was easy to construct. We used Justin’s graduation picture to get an idea of how the frame will display my future picture.

The frame needed a little distressing so Brian and the kiddos helped with denting and smacking the piece. After a little stain and some finishing embellishments I found the perfect picture to complement the new frame!

I really enjoyed making the frame and seeing my idea come to life. I will write more in future blogs about my Handmade projects from my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JordanArtCreations
